In 2011 Mema became one of Adelaide’s earliest adopters of Nerdlesque at the top of a green pipe as Super Mario at Miss Burlesque SA 2011 and not long after performed in the Australian Burlesque Festivals Baby Bombshells Showcase. In 2015 Miss Sifa levelled-up her Super Mario routine which secured her first the Miss Burlesque South Australia 2015 title and then the “Miss Burlesque Revival” title for best Neo performance at Miss Burlesque Australia 2015. This year Mema Sifa’s Super Mario jumped in to two pipes in May which led her to the London Burlesque Festival and The Galway Burlesque Festival.
In addition to Super Mario, Mema has lampooned Star Trek, Halo, The Big Bang Theory, Freddy Kreuger, Game of Thrones, The Nightmare Before Christmas and her absolute favourite routine (and movie, book and general subject) Lord of the Rings. Very occassionally she performs non-nerdlesque, but usually still comedic, burlesque routines about Adelaide.
In early 2014 Mema assembled a crack squad of super friends to take on the forces of boredom and show the world (or at the very least the Adelaide Fringe) just how Nerdlesque is done way down south. Bazinga Burlesque’s first production “BAZINGA! Nerdlesque Nights” at the Adelaide Fringe 2014 sold out its entire run (in fact over sold), received 4 stars from Rip It Up, and garnered a lot of positive feedback. With that in mind Mema then ran “BAZINGA! Nerdlesque Nights” at Adelaide Fringe in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
In 2015 after a late night Villi’s conversation Mema and assistant-producers Vivienne Von Coffin and Ignatius Blackthorne set about creating IMMORAL KOMBAT, an all nerdlesque improvised strip-off. The first tournament was held in late 2015 and then again as part of Adelaide Fringe 2016 and 2017.
