Jessamae St. James (Melbourne, VIC)

By News

“…the main event is St James’ voice. It’s a versatile and dramatic instrument that can easily recalibrate itself, and seems just as suited to phlegmatic Weimar-style sprechgesang as it is to the full-throated stylings that echo the great Shirley Bassey.”

Cameron Woodhead, The Age.

“St. James is a powerhouse vocalist…she refuses to be a one-trick pony…”

A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts Music Theatre program, Jessamae (a.k.a Jessie Upton) burst onto the Melbourne burlesque and cabaret scene in early 2010 with a debut performance at The Arts Centre for JoyFM. She has appeared as a burlesque performer at The Australian Burlesque Festival and The Sydney Tattoo and Body Art Expo. She was a headline performer for The Lorne Festival of Performing Arts, presenting both burlesque and song. Lallah L’amoré (Melbourne, VIC)

By News

Provocative, subversive and satirical, Lallah’s theatrical flair and chameleonic stage persona have marked her out as a force to be reckoned with since her debut on Melbourne’s burlesque circuit in 2010. Her distinctive performance style blends the sublime and the ridiculous, the sexy and the surreal, the glamorous and the grotesque, more often than not with a dash of socio-political subtext to add a little extra kick. Creator of The Divine Parody, winners of the 2011 Australian Burlesque Festival’s “Baby Bombshells” showcase, her impeccable timing, razor-wire wit and gleeful disregard for common decency (or sense) will have you howling with laughter even as you quake in your Manolos.

If you think you’ve seen it all, then you haven’t seen Lallah L’amoré. She’s anything but predictable, she’s destroying the joint, and she’s taking you with her. Bring a change of underwear.
